CM80 Drape /Curtain Motor
This curtain controller now makes motorised drape control affordable and without the need to install proprietry curtain rails. Control of this unit is simple - apply power and it moves from the current position to one limit position. Remove and re-apply power and it will reverse and move to the opposite limit. Remove power at any intermediate point and it will stop. Installation is easy - simply hang the unit at the bottom of the U loop of the drape pull cord. Attach adjustable wall bracket and plug AC adapter into an X10 Appliance Module. No cutting of the pull cord is required.

The CM80 works with both cord and ball chain type pulls. Operate the motor using either X10 Appliance Modules (not included), switch 12 volts DC via relays using Comfort's outputs or a digital time switch. For those times when you are on Holiday or working late of an evening, Comfort can provide automatic scheduled operation of the curtains in conjunction with the lights to give the 'lived-in look' and can also provide remote control via the telephone or any keypad within the house.

Maximum Curtain Weight
Maximum weight depends on the quality of the headrail. If the headrail is a commercial type, then fabric weight can be up to 60 pounds (27kg). Commercial headrails have ball bearing end-pulleys, and ball bearing carriers. These are commonly called cut-to-measure, or CTM. However, a CTM headrail does not always have the ball bearing features, so do not assume that if it is CTM it is the best. You must always check whether it has ball bearing end-pulleys and/or roller carriers. Some have one of these features, others have both features.

The so-called standard headrail is less expensive. It has end-pulleys
mounted on a "formed" axle (no bearing). This axle is not perfectly round, and it has a seam, therefore the pulley can drag. Standard headrails also have sliding carriers (no rollers and no bearings). Standard headrails have much more resistance, therefore maximum weight may be a low as 20 pounds (10kg).

The CM80 was designed to operate both commercial, and standard headrails. However, when a window covering retailer sells a custom job, the headrail is usually longer, and the fabric weight usually heavier than normal. When motorizing a custom job, the dealer should use CTM with ball bearing features. This is not mandatory, however is preferred.

Switching Options
For local switch control, you can use the X10 SS13E wireless wall switch or other X10 Radio Transmitter such as the HR10 with the TM13 transceiver module, additional motors may be operated using the AM12 Appliance Modules. The TM13 and AM12 is UK type fitting but other country formats may be ordered specially. You could also operate the motor using a timer module such as from Argos.
